Professional Biography

From Washington, D.C. to
Argyle, Texas.

Alan Balmer is a credentialed Certified Public Accountant with over 40 years of tax preparation, S-Corporation planning, and IRS problem-resolution experience. By keeping his practice independent and personal, Alan ensures every client deals directly with him — no junior associates, no administrative disconnect, and no generic answers.

Alan began his career in the Washington, D.C. office of Laventhol & Horwath, then the seventh-largest international accounting firm in the United States. Working as a staff auditor in a fast-paced capital market taught him the rigid compliance methodologies, deep forensic examination standards, and technical research skills required to defend tax filings at the highest level.

In 1984, Alan brought his large-firm experience to Fairfield, Iowa, founding the multi-accountant firm Balmer, Nelson & Van Mersbergen. For 31 years, Fairfield served as a highly unique national incubator for early-stage industries and startup founders. Alan became the primary financial architect for hundreds of relocating entrepreneurs. He guided thousands of small businesses from initial formation and S-Corporation tax structuring to high-growth operational phases. Under his advisory, several clients pioneered brand-new markets — ranging from nationwide infomercial distribution networks and oil brokerages to high-end sports collectibles and retail platforms. Multiple businesses in his client portfolio eventually scaled to go public or sell for nine-figure values ($100M+).

Over his 40-year career, Alan has served as a trusted personal tax advisor to approximately two dozen high-net-worth families and family offices, managing assets exceeding $100 Million. These relationships span 20 to 30 years — a testament to Alan's absolute discretion, consistency, and alignment with his clients' financial legacies. His client list has included nationally recognized authors, prominent television personalities, multi-state commercial retail operators, and business owners post-exit.

Additionally, for over two decades, Alan served as the financial controller for a famous global non-profit corporation. Operating as a virtual controller, he integrated his firm's full suite of accounting, payroll compliance, tax preparation, and tax-exempt filings to support the corporation's nationwide operations.

Today, Alan operates a focused solo advisory from Argyle, Texas, helping select business owners and individuals establish tax savings structures, address IRS challenges, and coordinate filings across all fifty states. He guarantees his clients direct, personal CPA expertise — ensuring your tax filings are never outsourced, delegated, or left to chance.
